Their speed is underrated.
Kovalev skates faster with the puck than most people do without it. How often does anyone come up from behind and catch him going through center ice?
Latendresse's speed has improved. The play he got his penalty on last night, he literally flew back in a backchecking role and caught his man. Unfortunately, he decided to interfere with him after the play was over.
Lang is not fast, but we can live with it.
I like this line, because I see Lang as a #2 offensive centreman, and Pleks as a terrific 3rd line checking centre with some skill and excellent on PK.
Eventually I expect Maxwell will take over from Lang in that offensive role. If he really can't do it soon, I suppose we could move Pleks back to #2 and try Chips as the 3rd line C. Within a year ior two, Pacioretty will also give Latendresse a run for #1 power forward.
Keeping the Tender-Lang-Kovy together on the second line means allowing AKost to play RW on the first line, and returning Tangs to his natural LW position, two moves I really like. That leaves SKost the 3rd line RW job with Kostopoulos pushing him to keep his play at a high level without taking stupid penalties.
The fourth line can include whoever has the most energy while committing the least errors, at a given time.
