I don't think Gainey ever offered Briere 7-8 years. I think that's why he ended up in Philly, just like Elias and the Devils. Gainey has always stated he doesn't like long term deals (anything over 4 years), so I doubt he would want to take on an 11 year deal.

On top of that, looking at how the economy of the league is headed, and taking on an 11 year right now doesn't seem smart, almost regardless of who the player is.

I mean, I would love to see Lecavalier on the habs, but that contract is just toooooooo long.
