And one more thing: The reason it wasn't a huge hit is quite simple. The chorus comes in at 1:02. That's 3 seconds too late. Any record mogul knows that if the chorus - or "hook" as they call it in "the biz" - comes any later than 0:59, the song sucks.
I'm almost certain the song was a top ten hit. I think she was related to Sam Cooke.
