If they don't really start to play better, yes. Especially if they're sitting here at the deadline. Lundqvist will be moved. Lehtinen and Ott may as well.
But besides deadline deals, this is just a bad team. They give up early goals. They give up late goals. There's no 60 minutes of consistent play. The penalty kill is bottom ten. The power play is somehow even worse.
Dallas is also in a tougher division than teams they are better than. Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and Florida will get more points off each other than Dallas will against the rest of the Pacific. St. Louis has had injury problems but Bergland and MacDonald should be healthy soon. Los Angeles is a good young team that needs their best goalie to stay healthy. Colorado just has to tread water until Stastney returns. Edmonton has played below it's talent level and now their kids are turning things around. Minnesota's defense is light years better than the Stars.
Do I need to go on? They're not as bad as Atlanta, TB, or the Islanders. Columbus without Brassard is a mess. So what? At least Toronto competes night in and night out. God only knows what's going on in Ottawa, but they have just as much talent as us and can't figure it out. Ellis is actually carrying his team (Nashville) somewhere. Carolina keeps on keeping on and don't look now but the kids in Florida are starting to play pretty well and will look better when Horton is back in the lineup.
Maybe they can do it but so can the five teams ahead of us in the standings.
