Here's a quick question:

When trying to build a Stanley Cup Champion is it tougher to aquire:

#1 Center, just entering his prime & a solid # 5 defenseman

Best Case scenario
2nd line offensive winger
#2 defenseman
2nd line player or 4/5 defenseman (Rangers 2005 #1 pick)
Nobody is saying Thornton isn't really good, but to me, he is not a dominating player, not many are anymore. If the word on Crosby is legit, I'd rather wait and try to land him next season in the draft. If Gretzky thinks he is a special player, I'll take his word for it!!!!!!BTW, what makes you think we have no shot at landing a better than second line player with our first rounder next season. With Dunham in net, and Poti as a top line playeron defense, we will easily finish in the bottom three. Especially since Pittsburgh has really stepped it up so far this offseason with the FA signings. I am glad all we have done so far is sign our own people and a couple of role players. It is the correct approach after the past seven seasons of futility!
