You know, the consistency thing is a bit of a red herring. The fact is, the Habs have far too many offensive players. Each has their own expectations in a vacuum and the truth is, there is some element of mutual exclusivity. If one guy is on the top PP and scoring, someone else isn't.

The fact is, Montreal will only score so many times each game and while a few guys could pull up their socks, based on fan expectations we expect the following:

Kovalev - 35 goals
Lang - 25 goals
Tanguay - 30 goals
A. Kostitsyn - 30 goals
Koivu - 20 goals
Plekanec - 25 goals
Latendresse - 20 goals
S. Kostitsyn - 20 goals
Higgins - 30 goals


When's the last time a single team had that many forwards score that many goals? Fact is, only 6 to 8 of them can get significant PP time, which is where a lot of goals come these days.
