Just because they have more NHL-caliber forwards (which probably isn't true) doesn't mean they have a lot of
NHL caliber forwards. Sheldon Keefe, Andrei Nazarov, Tyson Nash, Mike Rupp, Jason Chimera, Dan Cleary, Boyd Deveraux, and Erik Westrum maybe be NHL caliber forwards, but they've all either bounced around the league, split time between the NHL and AHL for most of their career, or are unproven. After the first pairing on defense--which is a very nice pairing--you've got Cale Hulse, Brad Ference, Sean O'Donnell, and Matthew Spiller. Excuse me if I'm not blown away.
Goaltending is a concern without a top-shelf guy between the pipes, but to say they have no managerial philosophy seems ridiculous.
No, I said they
seemingly have no managerial philosophy.
I can't tell what it is, because they don't appear to have sense of direction.
The only hole from last season they haven't addressed is goaltending, and thats not a matter of philosophy, as they've committed to Boucher and Johnson. This signing is solid. It gives some experience to a young team, and some offense to an offensively anemic one.
So they've got a good managerial philosophy, the biggest collection of NHL-caliber forwards in the league (you words, not mine), what does it give them? An anemic offense (again, your words, not mine). Gotcha.
