I would avoid trading the Kostitsyns, unless there was a ridiculous overpaying coming the Habs' way. The brothers are pretty much guaranteed to outperform their cap hits over the next couple of years. Any team that wants to be among the best in the cap era needs outperformers. I'd put Gorges, Price and Halak in this category as well.
IMO, the primary candidates for trade bait are:
- players nearing UFA status, who are not dominant, but will be paid at market value (Higgins, Plekanec)
- young players who are made redundant by others in the organization, but still have the potential to be usefull NHL'ers (Chipchura, Carle)
