Brown was a depth player with no real use on the Canucks, McIver is a depth defenseman with no real use on the Canucks. This is pretty much an AHL deal.
Canucks signed/obtained too many (7) forwards in the off-season: Bernier Johnson Hordichuk Krog Ouellet Wellwood Demitra causing an excess of forwards - 20 including Pettinger - many who can't/couldn't be sent down without going thru waivers.
Naturally, anytime a player gets injured, one of these guys gets called up and when the injured player returns, you have to put the called up player thru waivers before sending him back down.
To solve this problem, the key is to sign ****** players who you know will clear waivers.
