If you get a pair that fit right they are so much better than ice hockey pants. I actually use this setup on the ice as well, which I admit is a bit dangerous given that my girdle isn't quite as protective as the padding/armor in ice hockey pants. But I find that it's enough, and the tradeoff I get in maneuverability is well worth the risk in my opinion.

That said, you definitely stand out on the ice with this setup, and not always in a good way. Some guys have it out for roller hockey players who tend to be more individualistic and skilled with the puck. I know for a fact that I have taken a few hits/slashes because I look like a roller hockey player, but it's part of the game I guess.
