Heel lifts? They're a good idea for a lot of skates. They put you on your toes more, which forces you to bend your knees and improves your stride. Some skates like grafs and eastons come with a forward pitch already, you don't need them. Profiling a blade to have a more forward lean can accomplish the same thing. Skating backward will be a little harder, but you do much more forward skating.

So yeah, it'll take getting used to, but it's a good idea.
