Parise isn't even close to being a sure thing. He's incredible small and weak for the NHL. Players like Parise rarely become quality NHL players with the size in the league today. Gionta gets way more ice time then he deserves. If he was on any other team he would be on the 3rd or 4th line. Gomez was carried by Elias all year.

The Devils have drafted small the past few years. It is haunting them now. I wouldn't say Parise is a lock at all.
