PJStar awards -----

MVP: Manny Legace is the MVP of Peoria’s powerful stretch run, but captain Trent Whitfield has been there all year. It’s Whitfield.

Best Defenseman: With St. Louis Blues prospects on the roster like Steve Wagner and Jonas Junland, never thought this guy’s name would be written in this slot. But here he is: Steve Fletcher. His 31 points lead all Peoria defensemen, and his +20 is best among all players on the team.

Best Forward: Take a bow, Mr. Whitfield.

Best Rookie
: Junland, a defenseman who earned a trip to the All-Star game and at midseason had the second-most goals among all blue-liners in the AHL.

Most Improved Player: A tie between wingers Chris Porter and Ryan Reaves. The latter elevated his physical game and became one of the best checking-line forwards in the league.

True Grit/Unsung Hero
: Winger Yan Stastny, who has been phenomenal since he came back from the NHL to join Peoria’s stretch run.

Best Defensive Forward: Chris Porter had a great second half and is a warrior on the penalty-kill unit.
