Actually, I read comments in one of the papers over the weekend by either Yzerman or Langenbrunner that basically stated that the players are changing their minds about contraction. Essentially, they are beginning to view contraction and the subsequent loss of x amount of jobs, as a way to stop loosing money so that there would even be less of a "need" by the owners for a hard cap. Off course, Bettman will never agree to contraction becuase that would be admiting that the league made a mistake to begin with.
