yeah it sounds like you need strengthening of your knee more than any support.

I say this because I have a hole (not a hole really but a skin covered hole) in the side of my right knee from a very serious leg infection as a small boy at 11 years old. i was in the hospital and almost had the leg amputated.

I have some cartilage gone and years ago had a strength rehab thing which improved everything tremendously. now I have a knee that feels as strong as the other one and gives me no troubles.

I need to do something similar with my wrists as I am always having tendon issues from shooting pucks and playing hockey.

Good luck in any case and look into strengthening your knees.
