The new shaft setups are tapered shafts with the blade having a shorter hosel. The One95 appears to be standard only though like you said.
I wanted an easier time of buying blades that I want to use and not be bound to a tapered system.
The tapered shaft mimic a one piece's kickpoint and is the main selling point of them. I might give one a twirl one of these days. My friend who owns a pro shop uses Harrow (formerly Christian) and swears by them. They run at about $90 for the shaft and $50 for the blades.
I just went with ease of shopping more than anything with the non tapered standard .620" standard size. This is why I want a Supreme One95 for the standard shaft.
I have never used a tapered shaft and cannot comment on the performance differences.
