Marcel Dionne is considered one of the best regular-season performers of all-time. He had 1771 points in 1348 games (1.31 PPG). During his career, he had
100 point seasons.
But in the playoffs, he was a completely different player. He never won a Cup, and had 45 points in 49 career playoff games (0.96 PPG).
In comparison, since joining San Jose, Thornton has scored at a 1.28 PPG clip in the regular season. In 41 playoff games during that same time span, he has 35 points (0.85 PPG).
Thornton is also considered a- to put it lightly- very different player during the post-season. Like Dionne, he's never even been to a Conference Finals.
