As far as being hung out to dry it all depends. This is a guess on my part but most cases players that AHL teams invite to camp are under contract with NHL teams ECHL teams and have other options.
Reading made their affiliation with the Hershey Bears (Colorado Avalanche) of the AHL official by announcing the signing of a "secondary" AHL affiliation agreement with them yesterday ( ). The details of the agreement weren't published but a member on another board indicated that each AHL team will be sending one goalie. He also indicated that Brust will be the goalie sent by the Monarchs.

From the group the Monarchs released yesterday, Belanger and Mangos were already signed in Reading. Nagel is signed with the Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL...
