Not to sound like sour grapes but this is my train of thought. Based on what I've heard from posters here who have seen him play on a (semi)regular basis and his stats in the KHL I can't help but think he knows he's not good enough to play in the NHL.
Think about it, if you're making 2,3,4MM in Russia and still have fairly poor performance and are a bottom pairing defenceman why on Earth would you leave. If he comes over to the NHL and sucks he won't be able to go back and get the same kind of money in Russia because he can't wave the NHL card to them anymore because no one here will want him. So, he dangles a Habs contract offer to Ak Bars and they bump up their offer to make him stay. If you ask me, the only way or time he will ever come over is when he's run out of the KHL and some retard GM takes a flyer on him because of his talent, at which point he will demand NHL money and top dman time and will surely disappoint.
That's just the way I see it and as such, **** him, let him rot in Ak Bars.
