If Gomez was offered for Semin, Washington would take it and run...

Gomez might not be one of the top 10-15 centers in the game, but Semin isn't exactly a top 10-15 prospect in the league either. he has a lot more to prove to even be considered mentioned in the same level as Gomez right now. and even in 5 years chances are that Gomez will still be a better player than Semin has developed to.

and for the Caps, despite still being a rebuilding team it'd be a no brainer to take Gomez over Semin.... Ovechkin - their best prospect - is already more ready than Semin, and would probably make a better linemate for him.

Semin is a good prospect, but there are enough prospects that are already rated higher than Semin, and some of those guys won't even make it as a top liner in the NHL - it happens every year.
