The true elites are much rarer. Most think that Malkin is in a tier with two others and then there is a drop to the next teir. That is how rare. Adding numbers together and thinking that you are replacing a true elite with a couple of lesser players misses the point entirely. A couple of lesser players replacing an elite generational player makes you like most of the other teams in the league. The math may look good on paper but does not work out in real life.
Question: How can players that put up 80-90 points be a dime a dozen when there are less than a dozen of them in existence?
