Simply put, of defensemen whose rights the Capitals possess on the NHL team who are signed, RFAs, UFAs; else in Hershey, South Carolina, juniors, college or Europe, who are your keepers and who seem to be fizzling out? Who is trade bait, and who is worth allowing to percolate a while longer?
What timelines do you foresee for certain players in development terms, else expiration dates, else peak dates?
Where are there holes, where the system might not be able to meet a need either in terms of niche, talent, type of player or maturation under a particular team contention timeline? What, and when, do you look outside the organization to fill on defense?
This stems from a Lepisto discussion on the trade board that is solid grist for an offseason wrasslin' match here. The Capitals have a lot of defensemen under contract or whose rights they possess developing elsewhere. Six dress nightly.
