He was a12th overall pick in 2002 by the Capitals but has never lived up to his promise. His defensive play has not been all that good - mind you he was on some godawful Caps teams early in his career.

Here is his movement:
Mar 4, 2009: Tampa Bay Lightning traded Steve Eminger to the Florida Panthers for Noah Welch and a future 3rd round selection.

Nov 7, 2008: Tampa Bay Lightning traded Matt Carle and a 3rd round draft pick in 2009 (San Jose) to the Philadelphia Flyers for Steve Eminger, Steve Downie and a 4th round draft pick in 2009.

Jun 20, 2008: Washington Capitals traded Steve Eminger and a 3rd round selection in 2008 to the Philadelphia Flyers for a 1st round selections in 2008.

Jun 22, 2002: Drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 1st round (12th overall) in 2002 and played as 18 year old in 17 NHL games before going to the Canadian National juniors and then back to junior for the rest of the season.
