I have no problem with a salary structure that pays stars big money because people pay to see the likes of Martin St. Louis or Mario Lemieux. They don't pay to see Tim Taylor.
Fair comment, though at the other end I doubt that guys like Kolnik would see their salary go down with a cap because there sitll is a minimum. But as you quite rightly point out the "middle class" player's salary is affected by the top handful.
