True Blue: I'm just stating that I don't believe a luxury tax guarantees anything except some owners will make more money. I don't think a luxury tax is a deterrent for most teams to spend.

As for MLB, look at it this way. To be a real PO contender in baseball you probably need to spend upwards of $100 million. Getting an extra $20 million on top of a payroll that could be anywhere from $20 mill to even $40 mill doesn't really address the situation. So if you know you have no shot to compete, why not just pocket the dough? (I actually hate what Selig has done to the Brewers but I'm play devil's advocate.)

And one other thing. Just because teams have the same payroll does not mean they should necessarily have the same ticket prices. There are other costs which are higher in NY than in Nashville.
