Anyways, it sounds like the OP is looking for
black hockey tape
. It actually comes in all colours, but black is by far the more prevalent because it (apparently) makes the puck harder for the goalie to see. Many players use black tape on the blade of the stick, and white tape on the top of the stick. Using white tape on the top prevents your glove palm from getting pretty dirty.
This dumb ass over here used masking tape on his blade in the late 70s as a 10 year old kid who didn't know any better.
Yeah I still feel stupid about it. "Why does my tape come off after playing for an hour?". DUH!
