But the Habs can't really risk having Gionta or Gomez take a shot off the ankle or something and be forced out for an extended period of time. This is what changed when Gainey came over. Carbonneau used Koivu and Kovalev on the PK where they were effective, no doubt, but it's not their bread and butter. Gainey came in and guys like Metropolit, Higgins and Dandenault took those roles. To me it makes more sense that way. You have guys for the PP and you have guys for the PK, there needs to be set roles. The Penguins don't use Crosby or Malkin on the PK.

Plus there really isn't anyone that can fill this PK role from within other than Chipchura. This is Mike Grier we are talking about though. 1 year $1 million and I would do it. He can maybe help groom others and helps fill a hole while Gainey finds a long term solution.
