Hickey's play seemed to seriously regress the season after he was drafted, but he responded well after recording fewer points in 2008 than 2007 by putting up over a PPG in the post-season and then improving his totals to 16 goals scored last year. However, he seemed to be very unrealiable at the World Juniors (I realize that it is but one tournament of a few games and shouldn't determine whether or not he is a legitimate prospect) while Subban took several large steps forward over that time. In terms of defensive reliability I have no doubt in my mind that PK will continue to improve, but Hickey has him beat at this point in time. In terms of who is closer to the NHL though I would say that Subban is more likely than Hickey to get games in next season in large part because the Habs seem intent on promoting him (and they need some more offence from the blueline).
