Re Leetch: Two different types of broken ankle -- a displaced fracture when he slipped on ice -- which generally requires surgery and a 10-12 week recuperation or a simple bone fracture -- see Modin slapper -- where the bone is broken but will heal in 3-5 weeks. A displaced fracture can be a disaster for a player's career -- Tommy Davis (former Met) was 2-time NL bating champoin for Dodgers in the '60s when he broke his ankle and he was never the same player. And yes, ankles are a big concern for hockey players -- much like knees are for football players -- and until the injury is clarified we should be concerned.
