Carkner bounced around the league for a bit before finding a home in Florida.

He always struck me as a guy who had the size to play physical but that it wasn't something he might do on his own with constant prodding. I know he had a big pim seasons with Philly, but it always seemed that he would rather be more of a stay at home type than a bruiser.

As for Rice I never was as in to him as some people. He was always oversold IMPO.

He was a guy with nice size for the time who scored a little and could play physical, the problem was he could never seem to do both consistently or often enough at the same time. Rice ideally was comfortable as a third line winger who got his 15 goals, 50 pim and blended in. However he was never really allowed to do that. With the Ranger he was supposed to be a power forward and with the Oilers {and anyplace afterwards really} he was one of the kids traded for Mark Messier.

In a different set of circumstances {and with a better head on his shoulders} he was a possible Mike Grier type player.
