The overall rating can't be used as an indicator of how good the player will perform in the game. It's, as far as I know, a weighted average of the various attributes. It's not going to come out perfectly, so it's fruitless to get upset over any player's overall rating compared to another's.

However, you can dispute the individual attributes. Selanne's faceoff, Brown's speed, Drew Miller's balance not being a -67. These are probably a result of EA's crew not being able to follow every team as closely as the respective team's fans.

At the end of the day, they're all adjustable ratings. I prefer that EA concentrate on making a badass game rather than agonizing over the individual player ratings. They're in the right ballpark at least.
