There are couple of red flags in that optimistic story:

Hodgson has been battling a nagging lower back injury, which he described earlier this week as a bulging disc, since early this summer.

"I'd say it's (the back) about 70 per cent better," Hodgson said. "The doctors here and the chiropractors have really treated me well and I have done a lot of work and it's worked out so far."

Hodgson said his main goal now is to improve his conditioning, which isn't where he'd like it to be because of the rest his injury required.

"Conditioning-wise, right now I'm probably around 85 or 90 per cent," he said. "I'd like to get to 95 per cent or almost 100 cent before I get on the ice."

The last thing the Canucks need to do at this point is put Hodgson into a contact game too early and have him re-injure his back.
