I believe AEG owns several Euro teams and is building facilities for them. They have much experience in starting up leagues having at one point owned 6/10 MLS teams.
Agreed, only a combined European Super League could challenge NHL as the #1 league in the world. The RSL has got a few teams with ridiculously wealthy owners, but on the larger scale the russian league isn't capable to compete with NHL. Combined Euro-league, on the other hand, could do just that.
