I think it was overly rude.
I understand you need to protect yourself, and if you are bent way over or curled when you're likely to get checked, you're taking more risk. Dumont took that risk to try to make a play.
The checker has to finish his check to make sure Dumont can't stay in the play. But it sure looks as if the instinct, when Robidas sees that Dumont is going to slip most of the blow of the check, is to curl his arm up and curl his shoulder in to make sure he gets him solid. Normally that's standard. But he had time (ok, a split second) to know he was going to crush J.P. with that move, he could've pulled the blow. His forearm conveniently happened to be firmly at jaw height with something behind it.
I wouldn't say "dirty" but it was stronger then it should have been. And if the NHL says it's your own responsibility to avoid head blows to the other player...
I guess in the first game you let the league know "don't be trying to drive around me with your head down..."
