Gainey also signed Audette for that long-term contract and only dealt him when Hitchcock started benching him.

If Gainey felt Lang would dramatically improve this club, and felt the additional $6M (if Brisebois is earning $4.5M per year) over 3 years would be worthwhile, I could see him making this type of deal. But I'd imagine Perreault would need to be moved first. Perreault ($2.8M) + Brisebois ($4.5M) = $7.3M shed, bringing Lang ($5M)... the team would save $1.3M and have a major upgrade down the middle.

But I don't think anyone would take Perreault off Montreal's hands for free like this. And you can be certain that Washington would not be interested in Perreault.
