Also, I don't think Sather would just tell some shmo that Blackie is "done." It doesn't seem very professional and I hope it would be something Sather could refrain from doing.
Unfortunately, for some injuries (not Blackburn's) it pretty much is close to a century or more. That said, there is true promise in the idea of speeding up the natural process. We are living close to an age where amazing things are going to become possible. It's just a question of how close.
Regarding Sather: no one has ever accused him of being tactful in his dealings with most people. The writing has been on the wall for a while, especially given the lack of progress there's been since the surgery, and I suspect it's common knowledge within the organization that a full recovery by Blackburn is a real long shot.
