I too remember that he played at a very high level before his injury. Heck, I remember being at a game against Nashville that went into OT and Purinton actually had a great rush after he picked up the puck at center ice and had a great scoring chance. I remember being shocked that it was actually Purinton.

Although, I understand that his actions with Cairns rubbed some the wrong way, I don't think he was as much of a detriment on the ice for the Rangers as so many fans seem to think. Now, I'm sure people will point out that "plus/minus" is a flawed stat but it's still worth noting that before last season, Purinton actually was one of the better plus/minus players on the Rangers D.
