I believe it's just a player that is on your team, doesn't matter if it's one day or 10 years.


I believe that if the Knicks traded for Iverson today and his contract was expiring at season end they could sign him to a long-term huge money deal, and go way over their cap to do so.

The NBA does have a luxury tax, along with the soft cap, that is dollar for dollar. I don't have an exact figure, but I believe that the luxury tax number is approx $60 million.
