Here's more on the accountability discussion:

Punish one, punish them all.

Laviolette wants it known the enforcement code applies to first-line players as well as fourth-liners.

“That was penalties, people who take poor penalties and put themselves ahead of the team,” said Hartnell, who often wears the “Scarlet Letter” in that department. “Do a little bit extra skating, then the team skates with you and you do a little extra afterwards.”

Hartnell earned a double minor for roughing in Tuesday’s 6-2 win over the Islanders. Danny Briere took a bad elbowing call and a hooking call. Chris Pronger had a hooking call. Claude Giroux had an unnecessary cross-check.

Five of the Flyers’ nine penalties came in the second period; three in the final period.

“The penalties [Tuesday], I’m not calling out Giroux, but he’s changing, at the end of a shift, and he cross checks someone from behind and that kind of started all the penalties in the second period,” Hartnell said, arguing the team doesn’t mind killing off “good” penalties.

“The cheap ones, the stickwork and elbows to the face, always seem to bite you in the butt.”

  • Afleet Alex is lingering in the back of the pack.
  • Jeremy Rose has yet to make a move on him and he's running unstrongly.
  • Giacomo leads but...
  • Afleet Alex just ran right by Giacomo like he was standing still.
  • Afleet Alex is opening up with a tremendous burst of energy. He's five lengths in the lead.
  • A compelling outstanding performance by the plucky Afleet Alex. He won by six or seven lengths.
