He still has some discomfort in the hand. The Rangers equipment staff designed a brace/cast/protection for Dubinsky to wear. He had trouble shooting the puck before wearing that protection. He can't re-injure the hand unless he gets hit with another shot on the same spot.

Tortorella said that it is essentially up to Dubinsky, who has missed 13 games with the broken hand he sustained in Calgary on Nov. 7, to declare himself ready to go, assuming he is cleared by trainer Jim Ramsay.

"I don’t think he’s in any danger [of re-injuring the hand] but with something like a broken bone or a knee, a player has to get through it mentally," the coach said. "It’s Dubi’s call. We want him to play, he’s dying to play, and so we’ll decide after the morning skate.

"He’s an important guy. He’s a center, he forechecks, he hits and hopefully he’ll help us with some scoring. He’d be a big lift for us
