Did most say they were losing less?

I only heard one or two and read that Calgary thought they'd profit $5-7 million this year, which is now an opportunity cost loss, the Rangers actually said that the lockout could adversely affect results (something to that affect), and I'm sure Tom Hicks would like the arena he partly owns to be filled on a more regular basis. Wirtz, who claims to lose money, isn't filling those luxury boxes with people. I think I've only heard Karmanos say he'd lose less money.

And yes, I'm not giving a lot of credit to the owners. Just like I don't give a lot of credit to Jim Dolan, who spent hundreds of millions on a venture and is trying to figure out how to get out of it (outside hockey). I'm not sure they truly understand the fragility of hockey. Of course, having said that, we're at a disadvantage because we don't know what they're really thinking because this is a huge game of poker, but I don't give a lot of people the benefit of the doubt. I can't afford to.
