Chicago/Vancouver trade proposal

To Chicago - Bryan Allen & Jarko Ruutu
To Vancouver - 1st rounder 2004

Chicago has been in a rebuilding mode for the past few years. Time is running out on Smith. If he doesn't produce a team that shows significant progress this year, he will be turfed. Chicago does not sit well with a loser, and he has had enough time to turn this franchise around. The Hawks are better off with two player who can contribute now. Mike, who loves to hoard and hold draft picks, has just run out of time.

Bryan Allen brings value to a depleted Hawks blueline. This a young player with good size, toughness, and developing offensive capabilities. Has been under utilized by Crawford in Vancouver and is ready to break out with ice time.

Jarko Ruutu - brother of Hawk Ruutu and a valuable addition to 3 or 4 line. Brings abrasiveness and penalty killing attributes.

Vancouver receives a first round pick which is always good value. Vancouver is in a position where it has an abundance of players at both the NHL and AHL levels. This team is looking to reduce numbers, to give other prospects playing time.

In my opinion, bad move for the Canucks, unless the first rounder turns out to be a high lottery pick.
