That's because for some guys, the thrill of the chase is more important than the "catching". So, you get the young guys when they're unproven, you watch them in every game they play that you can, you check their stats and progress out every day, you thrill when they finally make the NHL team instead of being sent to the minors or back to junior. And you beam like a proud papa when they finally blossom into that star you always knew they were.

And then you dump their ass, and pick a new kid to raise.
