But that ignores the rationale of the trade for the Capitals.

When their incentive (purging a portion of a terribly burdensome contract) is considered, it is far from lopsided. In fact, it accomplished precisely what they intended, as it did same for NYR, even with them paying some of Jagr's remaining salary.

This was not a talent exchange; Anson Carter was just a throw in to even up some of the near-term financials. It was a monetary transaction for them.

As such, judging it by the metrics of on-ice performance is moot.
