While I like Brewer (despite him being slightly overrtaed by some), he's simply not as good as Hamrlik - and I doubt he ever will be. Josh Green was clearly a non-factor in this deal, but at the time he was regarded as a young power forward, around what Ramzi Abid is thought of now.
At the time, to be honest, I thought the Edmonton Oilers won the trade, but it seems clear to me NYI got the better half of it. However, the Oilers didn't do too badly, and consider the fact that they probobly would have had to deal Roman somewhere along the line anyways, Brewer wasn't a terrible replacement.
So - yes - the Islanders won the deal, but it wasn't a landslide or anything.
