I'm not so sure the competition to acquire him is that fierce at all. To my understanding Atlanta is asking too much and teams are willing to wait for him to lower his demands. It's unfortunate for Atlanta, but it seems Kovalchuk has indicated he won't sign before July 1st. This makes him a short term transaction for any team.
