If he's looking at long term contract, 7 years is not enought. It would means a new contract at 34 years old.
101 million over 12 years give a cap hit of 8.4 which is right there with Crosby, Ovechkin and Malkin. Imo, he's to Atlanta what the other are for their teams.
You could say his game overall is not as good as them but no others compare to them. So if you are looking for the next best guy, you have to look at him or at least, consider him. Then, Its Atlanta and like Montreal, they have to overpay to get good UFA players. So, If you have to do it, do it for 1 of the best in the game.I would look at a contract like hossa.
101m till he's 39. No way, he sign another contract after. So every millions is a bonus. Just add years to contract. Something like 115million/15 years
for a cap hit of 7.6 million. 10 years at 10m then 15m over 5 years. Its a lot of money but in NHL money, Montreal can afford it.
