Except that what generally happens is that those lesser teams collapse in the year following their run (e.g. Carolina and Anaheim. I'm willing to wager that Calgary will be the next.) Detroit, Colorado, and Philly just keep challenging on the strength of their finances. Lesser teams merely caught lightning in a bottle one season, and/or they have to reckon with the loss of players who were factors in their runs.

If you don't care WHAT Cinderella team arises year in and year out, things are fine. But if you're a Canes fan who can only look forward to a run in a rare lucky year, where's the fun?
