i think the 35+ clause only applies to every year of the deal other than the first year.

so i think his cap hit would come off the books completely this year if the rangers kept him down, but would come back on the books (minus 100k) next year. so if there are no takers, it would be best to put him on re-entry next season.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
