I wouldn't go as far (lol), but who would like to face a team in the playoffs that has Phillips, Volchenkov, Ballard and Carkner on defense? No one sane i'll tell you

Might as well give us the Cup

Those who say Ballard sucks really underrate the guy. He is basically a mix of Volchenkov and Phillips, not as good defensively as them but better offensively

Not necessarily...

Not sure what will happen with Cheechoo but let's say he's done in Ottawa and we bury him in the minors (or he's picked on waivers...)

So let's also say Keith Ballard for Chris Kelly, Brian Lee and a pick

2010-2011 Ottawa Senators

Jason Spezza — $7,000,000
Alexei Kovalev — $5,000,000
Daniel Alfredsson — $4,875,000
Milan Michalek — $4,333,333
Mike Fisher — $4,200,000
Chris Neil — $2,000,000
Jarkko Ruutu — $1,300,000
* Nick Foligno — $850,000
* Peter Regin — $607,000
* Ryan Shannon — $600,000
Zack Smith — $583,333
* Jesse Winchester — $550,000

Keith Ballard — $4,200,000
Filip Kuba — $3,700,000
Chris Phillips — $3,500,000
* Anton Volchenkov — $2,500,000
Erik Karlsson ($425,000) $1,300,000
Matt Carkner — $700,000
* Chris Campoli — $633,000

Pascal Leclaire — $3,800,000
Brian Elliott — $850,000

Ray Emery — $562,500
Daniel Alfredsson — $700,000

SALARY CAP $56,800,000
PAYROLL $54,344,166
BONUSES $425,000
CAP SPACE $2,880,834

2.88 in cap space but that's not counting Volchenkov's raise. Let's say he gets 4.0, it means there would be 1.38 left for the potential raises of Regin, Foligno, Shannon, Winchester and Campoli... Not sure how much more than today those guys would make on their next contract but for sure that's a tight cap. They are all RFAs and aren't putting great numbers though.

So it will depends on where the Cap goes. Then, Kuba and Leclaire will be the first targets we should look to move out.

But in the end, if that happens, i hope we'd be able to trade Kuba at the draft or in the off-season.

Ballard-Karlsson (wow)
